Is CBD good for my skin?

Wondering why CBD and skin is a match made in heaven? CBD has the ability to soothe the skin and is rich in antioxidants, which help fight away free radicals in the skin caused by UV exposure, other environmental irritants and the natural ageing process. As it is an oil, it also has moisturisation properties to tackle dry skin and helping maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance.

7 Tips for healthier skin

There are so many ways you can improve the health of your skin, let’s take a look at some of these below.

1. Protection From the Sun

Did you know that SPF, especially on the face, should be worn throughout the year? Yes, even in winter when UV rays are still prevalent.

Although sunbathing is an enjoyable experience, sun exposure can lead to wrinkles, sunburn, sun or age spots and other more serious conditions such as skin cancer.

You should use a sunscreen or moisturiser with SPF 15 or higher on a daily basis, as well as wearing sun protective clothing when necessary.

Adding CBD into your skin care routine can help fight away to the oxidative stressors in the skin caused by UV damage. CBD helps soothe and moisturise the skin.

2. Sleep

Experts recommend that you get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Sleeping helps your body to repair itself from damage and recover from inflammation.

Moreover, a lack of sleep can potentially cause your skin to lose elasticity and wrinkle.

The skin produces most of its collagen while we sleep. collagen is the molecule that keeps our skin looking plump and smooth.

3. A wash of hydration

People often underestimate the power of drinking water, the benefits it can have for your skin alone are incredible.

By drinking plenty of water every day (up to 2 litres per day – 6-8 glasses), you can help keep your skin tight and with a healthy-looking glow.

Dehydrated skin decreases cellular turnover and leaves you with a dull complexion. Staying hydrated can also help reduce wrinkles, scars and signs of ageing.

Another great quality of drinking water is that it will naturally flush the toxins out of your body. This will help you maintain good overall health and, in turn, good skin health.

Water can cleanse your skin from within, helping ensure your pores are less clogged, this will decrease the likelihood of acne and post-acne scarring.

4. If you drink alcohol, enjoy sensibily

Excessive alcohol intake can have negative long-term effects on your skin. When you consume alcohol, a by-product called acetaldehyde, which is toxic, is released into your body. This leads to your skin being extremely dehydrated, which may cause premature wrinkles.

Alcohol can also make the skin breakout; these acne spots can cause permanent scarring if popped and picked at. Most people don’t know that post-alcohol acne may turn into problematic cystic acne. If you choose to drink alcohol, make sure you always drink enough water alongside.

5. Eating good foods

While it is unclear which foods contribute to acne, an unhealthy diet has often correlated with poor skin.

It may be reassuring to know that no foods should be completely avoided. Prevention is the most effective way to work against skin aging. So eating a balanced, nutritional diet, rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals is key. Vitamins A, B2, B3, B6, C, D, E and minerals Zinc and Selenium are all important for optimal skin health and functionality.

The good news is that a varied diet provides all these nutrients, if you don’t get enough of these then you could recognise noticeable skin problems. Also getting enough of the right fats is also important. Omega-3 fatty acids come from a range of proteins including low-fat dairy, nuts, pulses, fish and lean meats.

Food and drink will always be the best way to give your skin and body the nutrients it needs. If you are following a varied and balanced diet there is no need for supplementation. However, you should speak with a healthcare professional if you are worried that your food is not giving you enough nutrients. Why not try our Multivitamin, Vitamin C or collagen supplements.

6. Managing Stress

High stress levels can lead to acne breakouts or other skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Taking time to achieve a healthier state of mind and managing your stress levels can improve the quality and physical appearance of your skin.

7. Choosing the right products

Choosing the right products can have a huge impact on your skin. You want to find gentle products that are made with natural ingredients, that won’t upset the PH in your skin.

Daily CBD skincare routine: 5 Step Guide

A daily skin care routine can be a godsend, but when you’re just starting out it can be quite daunting to think about. Following a skincare routine can improve skin health and cleanliness.

Here’s our everyday skincare routine:

1. Cleanse – rinse your face with warm water, then use your cleanser to remove any excess dirt, oils, makeup etc. and finally splash your face with cold water thoroughly to close your pores.

2. Tone – apply your toner to a cotton pad and gently wipe all over the face, this is to restore the PH balance and remove remaining dead skin cells. Shop Naturecan Rose Water toner here

3. Moisturise – gently rub your moisturiser all around your face in an upward motion. Moisturising helps with skin cell replenishment,  hydration and reducing blemishes. The rosewater toner is best followed by the rosewater moisturiser, available here, but you can add a couple of drops of CBD oil into any moisturiser for a similar effect.

4. Sunscreen – you can either choose a moisturiser with SPF built in or add your own sunscreen in next.

5. Lip Balm – finish with lip balm, lip balm helps to keep the lips hydrated and heal dry areas. Naturecan Lip Balm is teamed with soothing shea butter and nourishing coconut oil, leaving lips feeling soft and smooth.

CBD and skin: Daily morning routine
